Argumentative Essay on the Education System

 ~

Education systems across the globe are centered on the notion that students attain and recall the information from books and teachers. Such systems often test the information with standardized tests that contrast students with one another. They solely test the type of information that can measure during the tests. The objective is attaining knowledge, not advancing skills of using and making information. Different from the outdated education in which individuals had to remember things to be successful in exams and attain greater scores than their counterparts, the contemporary globe requires a new type of education where the emphasis is intense recognition, innovation, and knowledge management skills.

The majority of the global education systems are built in a way that makes the students remember information. One of the reasons is that educational institutions often want to compare students through the provision of exams. The schools want to provide grades and choose between the smart students and the stupid ones. They operate as the sorting method of society. When they start schools, the schools determine the student’s future through the tests. Another reason why educational institutions desire to make the students remember information is because they want to test their knowledge and establish their ability to remember. There is a common belief in schools that when students remember things, it becomes easy to understand. Additionally, schools desire to convey knowledge as used in this manner, even though the students have diverse, distinct skills; they acquire a similar knowledge.

According to Albert Einstein, “Imagination is greater than knowledge. Imagination entails the entire globe, while knowledge is limited.” As a result, acquiring knowledge is useless unless one can utilize that knowledge for innovation. Knowledge is the creation of other individuals. To understand something means that one is thinking about that thing. Every individual has a different way of seeing, hearing, feeling, and thinking. One thing can easily mean different things to different people. As a result, giving points on what could have diverse perceptions is not possible. As a result of this, tests are unreasoned. Exams are only there to segregate individuals based on their knowledge as stupid or clever. However, there are numerous forms of intelligence. Gardner, who is among the most well-known scholars in the intelligence field, established at least seven diverse forms of intelligence. Essentially, there is a relationship between intelligence and understanding. However, the use of tests solely measures a single form of intelligence.

In a contemporary environment, skills have a high rank than knowledge. It is useless to identify all the facts and cannot put them in practice. Moreover, it is significant to have the capacity to locate information faster, consolidate the information, assess and comprehend the key thoughts, combine, and generate new information. When combined, such abilities lead to innovative and information management skills, which are marketable in the work environment.

A vast majority of the population around the globe have the belief that education concerns remembering things to participate in exams that measure their performance against that of another. However, this notion is not relevant in the contemporary environment that focuses more on creativity than knowledge. To attain success in this technology era, education should emphasize on assisting students in gaining innovation and information management skills.
