Applying the levels of analysis framework to studying and learning at university. 1. How does the levels of analysis framework help us to understand human behavior?

Level of analysis (LOA) framework are the various methods of observing behavior and ways of viewing people from different perspectives in psychology. These perspectives areseen as lenses through which psychologists examine & interpret an individual’s behavior (Passer, Smith & Norris, 2016). The term ‘Biopsychosocial’ directly relates to the factors that should be taken into consideration when trying to gain a fuller understanding of human behavior within Level of analysis, and the correlation it has between, Nature, Nurture and psychological aspect of one’s lives. Nature is based on a person’s biological inheritance & characteristics, whereas Nurture is centered around one’s surroundings and past learning encounters and the Psychological aspect is derived from an individual’s notions and intentions. Griffin (2019) Topic 1.3, states ‘Humans are biological creatures with a complex mind living in a complex social world. This correlation takes us from biology all the way to social’. The human behavior can be explained at three different levels – The ‘Biological level of analysis’, which consists of brain process and genetic influences. This aspect of LOA is covert behavior and it’s based on the level of the body which is believed to be innate. It also states that evolution plays a key role and populates that the human behavior and pattern can be inherited. The ‘Psychological level of analysis’ is based on an individual’s thoughts, feelings and motives. It is also an example of covert behavior as it is based on the level of the person and their mental representations of the world.
