Define how you would progress with a comprehensive assessment of a child with suspected ADHD, depression, or both.

A clinical interview with parents, assess and observe the child, and collect data from
parents and teachers using ADHD rating scales based on the DSM to diagnose ADHD
in preschool-aged children (Wolraich et al., 2019). Early intervention in suspected
children with ADHD and depression is crucial because if left untreated it can impact their
mental health and quality of life later in life. I will also gather labs and diagnostic testing
such as EEG to further assist with objective data for the comprehensive assessment.
Pharmacological approaches require a family history of heart disease and clearance
from a cardiologist. There are two types of behavioral interventions: cognitive-behavioral
treatment (CBT) and parent management training (PMT). The goal of PMT is to improve
negative family interactional patterns (Bryant et al., 2022). This nonpharmacological
treatment can be put in place to assist the child adapt and regulate emotions effectively.
