Describe a significant event/patient interaction you have experienced anytime in your nursing career up to this week. Discuss the impact this had on you in terms of increasing your understanding of the PMHNP role, psychopathology, and/or the provider-patient relationship. Explore your personal strengths and limitations and their effect on the provider/patient relationship. Include reflection on your therapeutic use of self. Your discussion should reflect your specific learning/insight. Identify something specific that you learned from reflecting on this event/interaction and how will you apply that learning in your future practice?

 Entry 3
This week at clinical was more consistent with completing 20 hours on
consecutive days. My preceptor gave me a task to interview a difficult resident at a skilled
nursing facility. This individual is a 48-year-old male in the SNF due to car wreck and requiring
rehab. This rehab stay turned into long term due to no family capable of taking care of him due
to his mental illnesses. I interviewed the patient for a full hour session in his room. The difficult
part was listening to him tell his life story. The classic signs of bipolar was identified during the
interview. I also was thinking a differentiate diagnosis of borderline personality disorder. After
completing the interview my preceptor and I talked about this individual. I told her my remarks
and thought process. I also told her I had a difficult time interviewing him due to my mental state
repeatedly not taking him seriously. Not taking him seriously was due to my thoughts on him
being borderline personality. I was not using my therapeutic techniques and was not actively
listening due to my preconceived ideas. I talked with my preceptor, and she understood. She
agreed with me on the borderline diagnosis.
