Action coalitions in various states fuel the campaign for action that is focused on the
healthcare system that exploits the nurses' full potentials and capabilities. The action coalitions
focus mainly on effecting change in various levels and work towards advancing the IOM's recommendations. The changes range from interprofessional collaboration, improving care and access to care, leadership aspect of nursing, diversity in nursing, to nursing workforce data. The
changes effected by the campaign are centered on the recommendations from the IOM. They are
focused on mobilizing healthcare providers from various states, educators, and businesses to reinforce nursing from various fronts. Action coalitions are responsible for tracking the progress of
attaining a healthcare system's set goals and the challenges presented. The state action coalitions
work on five specific campaign imperatives, which include:
1. Focus on bettering health and health care for consumers
2. Work on short term results while cultivating the long term goals.
3. Be confident enough to appoint rightful leaders and eject ineffective leaders
4. Generate enough resources to sustain the job
5. Consider the opinions of diverse stakeholders
