Explain the purpose of informed consent.

Informed consent is a legal requirement during the provision of health services.
Care providers ensure that patients have acquired informed consent by ensuring patients
are knowledgeable about their health issues and all the merits and risks involved in any
treatment plan and all treatment procedures that will be conducted during the treatment
process(Falvo, 2011). Patients should be active participants in their health. Informed
consent is based on the respect of patient's rights and autonomy. Care providers must also
inform patients about all possible forms of treatment available that will help in the
decision-making process (Falvo, 2011).
