 Lungs being one of the most vitally essential structures in the body, cancerous or oncogenic growth in this tissue are a matter of grave concern and criticality. According to NCI Dictionary of Cancer terms (n.d), lung cancer is defined as a type of metastatic growth (Cancer) that forms in tissues of the lung, usually in the cells lining air passages. The main types are diagnosed based on histological analysis of the tissue. There are three main types of lung cancers. The Non- small lung cell cancer(comprising about 85% of lung cancers includes squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, and large cell carcinomas as subtypes ), Small lung cell cancer(about 10- 15%) and Lung carcinoid tumor(less than 5%).

There has been considerable work on the molecular biology and genetics of cancer, but till date, the exact mechanism has not yet been pinpointed to the level required for the development of a vaccine or a proper medication although multiple attempts have led to numerous anticancer agents and drugs used for treating.
