Information Technology & Nurse Informatics Role to Combat Healthcare Reform

 Health Care Reform in the US has been an unwavering battle depicting how the most expensive health care system in the world will look like and how it will be paid for.My rationale for choosing this topic is to demonstrate key factors as to how Information Technology and the APN role can effectively impact this issue.Despite much advancement towards a universal healthcare such as the Affordable Care Act (ACA), we have only found more complications relating to cost and quality in care.With low insurance coverage and an increase in healthcare costs the healthcare system is becoming overwhelmed with patients and understaffed with workers.Although the ACA has extended health coverage to millions of Americans we have not accounted for the healthcare worker population.Along with the welfare gains for low income individuals in poor health and welfare losses for high income individuals in good health, insurance companies are decreasing certain coverage’s and adversely driving the cost of care up (Jung & Tran, 2016)
