M3.5 - Teaching Plan for Butch Sampson

Good morning, Mr. Sampson. My name is Kelly, and I will be your nurse today. I will help you with your discharge instructions and provide you with details about the medicine you will need to treat your uncontrolled high blood pressure. Your blood pressure has been elevated throughout your stay, which puts you at a higher risk for heart disease, kidney issues, stroke, and heart attack (Wolters Kluwer, 2021). The wound on your right toe may heal more slowly because of high blood pressure. The medication prescribed for your high blood pressure is Metoprolol and we are going to review it together. This medication is an anti-hypertensive medication that selectively blocks beta1 receptors, known as a beta-blocker (Wolters Kluwer, 2021). This medication will help lower and regulate your blood pressure. You are prescribed to take Metoprolol 50mg, two times a day. Take this medication with food to prevent gastrointestinal side effects. You will take one pill by mouth in the morning with breakfast and one pill by mouth in the evening with dinner
