 Throughout history healthcare providers have always been advocates for providing communities with education and health screenings to promote healthier populations, even amongst diverse minority groups. With the diversity in populations especially among minority groups, health promotion has never been more important than it is now. Nevertheless, it is essential that healthcare providers become more aware and considerate of cultural, socioeconomic, and sociopolitical barriers to health in order to provide the best care possible to their patients. This paper will address the current health status of the African American minority group along with health promotion for this group, and current health disparities that exist.
