Advanced practice nurses play a critical role in the provision of safe, quality, and efficient care. They work in collaboration with other healthcare providers to evaluate the effectiveness of healthcare interventions used to meet the needs of their patients. Professional organizations have been developed to ensure that advanced practice nurses provide care based on pre-developed scope of practice. Therefore, this research paper explores the scope of my future role as advanced practice nurse, professional organizations that will influence my practice, and evolving issues that should be considered by the nurse practitioners. Scope of My Future Role as Advanced Registered Nurse My future role as an advanced registered public health nurse is extensive. According to Zaccagnini and Pechacek (2019), public health nurses play an integral role in healthcare by ensuring that the health and wellbeing of communities is maintained. Public health nurses utilize their knowledge, skills, and experience to ensure that the evolving needs of the diverse populations are met. They utilize the knowledge from various fields such as nursing, public health, and social sciences to determine the prioritized needs of their populations and come up with ways of addressing them (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2017). My role as a future advanced registered nurse aligns with these provisions. Firstly, the author has to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds to understand the manner in which their experiences influence their health. They have to utilize the scientific knowledge of inquiry to determine the existence of correlation between the exposure of a population to a health issue and the development of a disease. Through it, the author will embrace epidemiological knowledge in managing actual and potential health problems affecting our populations. The author’s role as an advanced registered nurse also extends to empowering individuals, families, and communities to take responsibility for their health. According to Lewenson (2017), advanced registered nurses not only focus on the management of health problems but also the adoption of interventions to prevent their occurrence too. They achieve this outcome with the use of interventions that promote the health of the different populations. Some of these interventions include health education to the public, screening, and immunization to prevent disease occurrence. The author’s future role in relation to this scope of practice will entail being proactive in examining the prevention of disease occurrence in the communities that they serve. The author has to work with other healthcare providers to explore the collaborative interventions that can be embraced to promote the health and wellbeing of the communities. In doing this, they will be empowering individuals, families, and communities to embrace behaviors that promote their health by eliminating risks of diseases and injuries in their communities. The role of the advanced registered public health nurse also extends to developing and using evidence-based date in case management and prevention. Most of the public health issues that are experienced in most societies demand the use of modern methods of management. The methods can be obtained from sources of data that have been tested in clinical and community settings to be effective in promoting community health (Schober, 2017). Therefore, the author’s future role as an advanced registered public health nurse will entail advocating the evidence-based practice in public health. They will champion the adoption of interventions that have clinical significance in addressing the issues facing the communities they will serve. Further, the author will ensure that the interventions that they advocate for promote cost-effectiveness, safety, efficiency, and optimization of the health needs of the individuals, families, and communities.
