2020. According to HealthyPeople.gov, the United States is currently at approximately
15%. Discuss two barriers that might hold nursing practice from achieving this goal
and suggest ways in which identified barriers may be addressed.
Among the barriers to EBP implementation are the institutional factors. Organizations
need to facilitate accessibility, practicability, and other factors that may affect how EBP is
implemented. For instance, organizations should have libraries or access to online libraries
and have enough nurses so that they have enough time to access evidence. However, the lack
of enough staff and time leads to it being had to apply evidence. Nurses working in resourcelimited organizations find it hard to get time to access research (Mahmoud & Abdelrasol,
2019). Also, without libraries, nurses cannot get the evidence they need.
In some cases, there are not enough resources like technology to enable professionals
to apply research. The institutional barrier should be fixed by viewing the use of EBP as a
thing that happens within the healthcare system and not just an individual duty. Institutions
need to employ strategies that will facilitate their staff in the use of EBP. They should also
have policies that support evidence use and invest enough in EBP. Stakeholders like payers
and others must give enough finances to support EBP.
Research quality is another issue that affects EBP and therefore slows down
implementing evidence in practice (Mahmoud & Abdelrasol, 2019). Research is an expensive
endeavor that also takes lots of time. However, even after completion, there are problems in
connecting the evidence to practice. Various studies give results that conflict, and therefore it
is hard to pick the best evidence to use. In other cases, the conclusions have been described as
unreasonable. The problems concerning the quality lead to nurses being doubtful of some of
the studies and therefore not applying them. Institutions and journals must review articles
