 Cassandra Moore Class, As healthcare providers each and every one of us has cared for patients who have diabetes. Currently, diabetes is one of the toughest challenges in public health in the current century (Zimmet, Alberti, Magliano, & Bennett, 2016). In fact, in America, over 100 million people have either diabetes or prediabetes as of 2017 (CDC, 2017). The prevalence of diabetes is all across the country and the morbidity and mortality rates are increasingly elevated. The incidence of diabetes is on the rise, and as healthcare providers, we must do something to address this concern. Multiple resources can be identified for different outcomes related to diabetes. The use of both public health metrics and qualitative metrics are resources that can be utilized to identify different outcomes (Curley & Vitale, 2016). Therefore, advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) working in their state must utilize all available resources to identify state-specific outcomes. In the state of Michigan, one available resource is the Michigan diabetes statics and reports (MDSR), which are located on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) website. The MDSR not only provides reports and statistical data, but also provides recommendations to tackle the topic of diabetes. This includes the Michigan Medicaid diabetes summary, which aims to discuss the benefits of the plan, aimed at diabetes prevention. Other resources offered are education regarding signs and symptoms of diabetes and promotion of healthy exercise and eating habits funded by the MDHHS. The MDSR allows advanced practice nurses to focus on key areas related to the care of diabetics, while furnishing public health metrics that can be useful in the formation of future care plans. Through qualitative research barriers to care such as cost and resources can be identified (Fink, Fach, & Schröder, 2019). However, the lack of education cannot be corrected by simply educating the population and moving forward
