What strategies would you implement to prevent further episodes of potentially dangerous patient outcomes?

The first strategy I would implement is encouraging all fellow staff members to take an ethics refresher course. These courses help people develop tools that are critical to understanding and resolving dilemmas (Winland-Brown, 2020). I think this situation above could have been resolved if the employees were able to revolve dilemmas or conflicts on their own. Conflicts and arguments distract from patient care so developing strategies to combat this is important to any healthcare practice. Also, a good foundation in ethics is important in providing professional and patient-centered care (Winland-Brown, 2020). If the patient is at the center of care, then heated arguments among coworkers would occur a lot less often. Along with taking a course on ethics, I would also implement case studies as team-building exercises that would require my coworkers to work together to come to a solution.
Another strategy I would implement is a mentorship program in the practice. I would elect people I feel to be of strong ethical character to be the mentors. I believe change can occur by leading by example. Role modeling ethical practices gives others a chance to learn, and it provides a resource to those who are less experienced in providing ethical care (Winland-Brown, 2020). It may be helpful for staff members to discuss ethical, legal, or relational issues with another staff member to find ways to resolve the issues (Winland-Brown, 2020). I think this mentorship will promote teamwork and collaboration which will ultimately improve patient outcomes in the practice. Finally, I would implement a provider-notification process. If any vital sign or lab value is abnormal, the MA must report that within 10 minutes. The MA must then document the time the value was obtained along with the time the provider was notified. If there was a delay in notification, that must be documented along with the reasoning for the delay. Documentation provides accountability and responsibility that could potentially save many patients lives
