 Clinical practice learning is critical for the improvement of individual skills and competencies, the advancement of coaching and mentorship activities while enhancing the development of proficiencies required in quality and outcome improvement (Vinales, 2015b). Training nurses and other medical staff in practice provides opportunities for the transfer of knowledge while increasing teaching and mentorship skills in clinical educators. In the current practice setting, the transition of student nurses from college to practice has emerged as an essential requirement: hence, leading to the training session. The findings have necessitated the provision of a transitional training and mentorship program that focuses on supporting and training students to adapt to the practice settings. The training session also doubles as a mentorship program, which is expected to increase learners’ interactions, and discussions, as well as, enhance interactions with mentors/educators. The primary objectives of the training program include the enhancement of awareness of cultural-sensitivity in healthcare, increasing knowledge of practice-based needs and requirements, as well as, providing essential professional skills to the learners.   
Effective Learning Environment in the Mentor/Educator Role
The learning environment is one of the essential components of learning in nursing education because it facilitates the transfer of knowledge from an educator to students while supporting the transferability of learning resources (Vinales, 2015b). A learning environment must support all the aspects of knowledge transfer including the theoretical and practical aspects of learning (Flott & Linden, 2016). Similarly, a learning environment must enable students to acquire and understand the concepts provided in the learning programs. From a mentor or educator’s perspective, a learning environment must support the objectives and goals of an educational program (Vinales, 2015b). The objectives establish specific deliverables that must be met by an educational program. An educator must assess whether a learning environment supports or impedes the delivery of these objectives and make decisions of modifying the environment to support the core project goals (Vinales, 2015b).
The other crucial aspects of a learning environment include the ability to support learners’ characteristics including educator-students’ ratio, learners’ comfort, and individual learners’ needs (Flott & Linden, 2016). Some of the individual needs such as learners’ disabilities must be addressed to ensure the educational program is inclusive of all learners’ needs and diversities (Flott & Linden, 2016). The educator-students’ ratio has been identified as a crucial determinant of a project’s success or failure (Vinales, 2015b). The size of a class or the number of students has been considered crucial in determining the workload on an educator and influencing interactions of an educator with students: a large ratio of students to educator increases workload (Vinales, 2015b).
The other aspect is the availability of resources and activities that support learning. The availability of teaching resources is crucial in facilitating all aspects of learning including supporting the actualization of theoretical concepts using practical experiments (Flott & Linden, 2016; Vinales, 2015b). A mentor or educator must identify the necessary resources required to accomplish a teaching project based on the goals and objectives of the project. Resource availability and the types of resources required to accomplish a task determine the choice of a learning environment including the size of the learning space, interactions of learners with resources and accessibility of the resources by learners (Flott & Linden, 2016).
The mentorship role in a learning environment is also critical in determining the outcomes of a training program. Mentors and educators play a crucial role in supporting, assessing, and teaching students while transferring theoretical and practical skills to learners (Vinales, 2015a). However, these outcomes cannot be realized without an appropriate learning environment and a thorough understanding of mentorship role in nursing training. The characteristics of a mentor play a crucial role in determining the success or failure of a mentorship or education program. Some of the supportive mentorship roles – that contribute to a conducive learning environment – include supporting and guiding learners, promotion personal and professional development, and communicating efficiently with learners (Vinales, 2015a). However, toxic mentors – characterized by avoidance of learners, dumpers of students, blockers, and destroyers of students – affected the learning environment by decreasing the level of concentration, interactions, and exchange of experiences (Vinales, 2015a).   
Importance of Understanding Learning Environment
The learning environment in practice education is critical because it influences the level of interactions among learners and between learners and educators. An educator must understand the importance of utilizing the learning space, tone, culture, and expectations of learners, as well as, ensuring that the learning space contributes to the realization of learning objectives (Yonder-wise & Kowalski, 2012).
