All diffuse pulmonary diseases can be classified in two big categories: 1. Obstructive disease, characterized by narrowing the air paths at any level followed with increased resistance and consecutive airflow limitation; 2. Restrictive disease, characterized by decreased total lung capacity as a result of decreased expansion of lung parenchyma. [1]

Discuss the advantages and drawbacks of the bill that passed the Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBM) Licensure in Tennessee

Recently, the Tennessee Senate passed a bill (SB 1852) that required any person serving in the state as a pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) to get licensure from the department of commerce and insurance before he or she starts any operations (Tennessee General Assembly, n.d.). Besides, the bill made it a criminal offense to administer a device or medication portion of pharmacy benefits coverage offered by a covered entity or otherwise play the role of a PBM in Tennessee in the absence of the licensure. The bill set out many eligibility requirements, which range from showing that one is financially responsible as determined by the department of commerce and insurance and pay a fee

Child Abuse and role of Social Workers in addressing it

According to the World health organization, child abuse or child maltreatment is a global problem occurring due to negligence or physical mental, sexual abuse that occur in children under 18 years and pertains to physical and or emotional mistreatment, asexual abuse, negligence, exploitation for commercial purposes etc that eventually leads to the detrimental effect on the psyche, behavior, health , dignify , survival in the long run . (WHO, n.d) .

Summarize your leadership style and discuss 3 ways you can effectively motivate co-workers using your leadership style.

Leadership and its styles are fundamental instruments in achieving targets in any field. It is an imperative requirement that can transcend through time and get enhanced. The style of leadership has been considered as the behavioral or approach towards providing directions, implementation, and execution of plans as well as motivating people to achieve their respective targets for maximum productivity in the reflection of the leader. As people and leaders differ, so does the leadership styles vary from person to person depending on their approach and according to a major part of organizations, leaders are essential at all levels. Leadership also extend to creative problem-solving capacity, ingenuity in problem-solving and knowledge sharing.

Pre-hospital Management of Pediatric Burns

Introduction Burn injuries constitute a major cause of physical and psychosocial morbidity in children, with severe burns causing lifelong disability or death (Grisham & Deming, 2011). The source of burn injuries may be due to direct contact with flame, hot liquids and chemical-related burns. Severe burn injuries require acute care for pain management, a process that may be difficult for young patients. After checking into emergency department, burn specialists are expected to map a treatment and recovery strategy for the patient that is consistent with the health needs of the patient – addressing both short-term and long-term physical, psychological, and social needs (Matthews et al., 2016).

A clinical investigator has received funding for a study of blood pressure adherence among hypertensive veterans. The protocol includes blood pressure measurement in a series of clinic visits. The PI has identified 12 clinicians to participate in the study. As a pilot test, the PI had 6 subjects present to the offices of the 12 clinicians for a single blood pressure measurement on two separate days.

Since blood pressure measurements were performed by 12 different clinicians, there is a possibility that they did not measure the blood pressure in a same manner, which could skew the results. The researchers need to ensure that the blood pressure measurement techniques performed by 12 different clinicians are not statistically significantly different, i.e. whoever of the 12 clinicians measures the blood pressure in the same patient, the blood pressure should be the same (or about the same). Furthermore, blood pressure measurement largel

1. Why did Mr. D’s kidneys fail (requiring dialysis)? Why was Mr. D’s risk for developing End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) higher compared to other type 2 diabetic patients?

Diabetes and ESRD Diabetes can predispose an individual to kidney failure. This is because diabetes as condition destroys the blood filtering blood vessels in the kidney leading to its malfunction (Mehrotra et al., 2011). Over time, continued impairment of the kidney leads to a build up toxic substances that eventually lead to End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). Mr. D, unlike other diabetic patients, is at higher risk of developing ESRD because his condition is poorly managed. As narrated in the nurse’s notes, Mr. D does not seem to care much about his medical nutrition therapy. To start with, his compliance to dialysis treatment is 75%; this is below the threshold. He skips his insulin shots on purpose with the notion that a spike in the blood sugars will help him cut weight. He does present any reasonable argument for the non-compliance. The dialysis nursing notes also indicate that Mr. D consumes a lot alcohol, which is contraindicated in diabetes and ESRD. In the dietary front, Mr. D

The Role of Nurse Practitioners in Substance-Abuse Relapse Mitigation

Abstract This paper explores ten published articles that report on results from research conducted on the factors which influence post-treatment relapse for substance-abuse patients. The thesis of the present work is that nurse practitioners (NPs), by virtue of their roles and standing, may be positioned to take into account relapse factors in developing long-term programs aimed at mitigating relapse rates. Specifically, the 12-month period immediately following patient discharge from treatment programs is of interest given the high rates of relapse during this time. The literature review indicates that there are many ways in which NP-driven programs may mitigate relapse, by paying attention to factors such as the high probability of relapse soon after treatment, the higher probability of relapse in women with histories of trauma, the near-determinative factor of brain atrophy, and the importance of prolonged and long-term post-treatment involvement in patients’ recoveries. Thus, this paper’s conclusion is that there is significant potential for NPs playing roles in mitigating post-treatment relapse for substance-abuse patients, through direct care and administrative work.

Applying Evidence-Based Approach in an Adult ICU to reduce Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing

Introduction An increasingly growing body of research studies confirms that patient outcomes improve significantly when nurses and clinicians provide services in an evidence-based system. According to Fineout-Overholt, Melnyk and Schultz (2015), evidence-based practice is a problem-solving approach to healthcare that seeks to incorporate the use of the current best practice from current research, patient preferences and values and the clinician’s expertise. Research has confirmed that evidence-based practice (EBP), once adopted and used in clinical care, improves patient outcomes, improves patient safety, reduce costs and reduce variations in the clinical outcomes.

Using the concepts discussed in Chapter 6 Market Segmentation, explore the various types of market segmentation strategies, and discuss the hierarchy of segmentation alternatives. Include at least one study that demonstrates the use of segmentation strategies in healthcare or in a health-related topic.

Market segmentation refers to the classification of customers according to their unique characteristics and needs and using the clusters to design and develop strategies tailored to the unique needs of every group (Berkowitz, 2010). While the concept has been mainly popular in corporations dealing with consumer goods and non-medical products, it has emerged as an effective and reliable solution to the diverse health care needs and the expanding patient populations. Various types of segmentation in healthcare exist including sociodemographic, cohort, and geographic. Others include psychographic and usage segmentation. Segmentation can be concentrated – focusing on a single consumer characteristic or group – or multisegmented – referring to the identification and establishment of multiple clusters and developing strategies to address the needs of each group

Phenomenon of Interest and Theoretical Framework Paper

The phenomenon of interest (POI) for this paper are effects of a modifiable factor, such as nutrition, on an adult's fertility. Over the past few decades, infertility rates have increased inmen and women (González-Rodríguez et al., 2018). Using theoretical frameworks such as meta-paradigm, grand and middle-range nursing theories, and complexity science can enable a nursepractitioner to apply their knowledge in a specific style relating to the patients needs. This caninclude incorporating the patient, the environment, their experiences, and more into theirtreatment plan.Nursing Meta-paradigmThe meta-paradigm is a view constructed in 1984 by Dr. Jacqueline Fawcett. She arguedthat nursing practice is focused on specific concepts and themes that give nursing practice aspecific direction (Bender, 2018). These concepts are person, environment, health, and nursing. In relation to the POI, the person would be an individual who has infertility. This is a women orcouple who fail to become pregnant "within 12 months of unprotected intercourse or therapeuticdonor insemination in women younger than 35 years or within 6 months in women older than 35years." (ACOG, 2019)

Theoretical and Ethical Framework Advanced Practice Nurses

Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) use nursing theories and concepts to expand patient care. The use of theory and research has proved nursing is a science and an art. Prominent nursing leaders develop models that offer the APN different perspectives on applying theory into practice. Nursing metaparadigms, established by Jacqueline Fawcett, focus patient care into four components: person, environment, health, and nursing (Butts & Rich, 2018). Reviewing theoretical and ethical frameworks can offer the APN further insight and clarify research regarding a phenomenon of interest (POI).

Psychosocial and Socioeconomic Factors Associated With Alcohol and Substance Abuse in Older Adults ?

Chapter 1: Introduction Background Alcohol and substance abuse among the elderly is emerging as a serious healthcare issue with the number rising from 1.7 million in 2000 and predicted to reach over 4.4 million people by the year 2020 (Chhatre, Cook, Mallik, & Jayadevappa, 2017). One of the possible causes of the rise in the number elderly people using alcohol and other drugs is the equal growth in the number of individuals aged over 50 years, with one study observing a double growth of this population between the year 2000 and 2007 (Chhatre et al., 2017). In another study, the elderly adults were identified among the fastest growing population with its share in the US population expected to reach over 20% by the year 2040 (Tadros, Mason, Davidov, Davis, & Layman, 2015).

You are the Compliance Officer of an acute care hospital that has been receiving billing denials from the Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) at a rate of almost 60%, which is significantly higher than the national rate of 40%. As the Compliance Officer, write a paper on the most likely causes of this high denial rate and how you will address these issues, e.g., new policies, new processes, an oversight committee, etc. and present to the class.

Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) According to the Office of Inspector General Report Card of 2010 (Hanson, 2015) the accuracy of physician billing of evaluation and management services had significant issues. Released in 2014 the reported indicated the accuracy of the claims was 42% due to incorrect codes with 19% of the claims were lacking documentation. It is worth noting there no improprieties related to improper payments for surgery or testing. It was estimated in 2014 Medicare would lose 12.7% of fee-for-service payments or $46 billion in payments, writes Hirsch (2015).

Evaluate your community and identify types of social work micro practice settings. Then, prepare a written analysis addressing the following: Examine the specific issues faced by individuals and families in your community. Investigate how social workers address social problems faced by individuals and family units. Provide examples to support your findings and indicate which tasks are key skills social workers must possess to work with these unique populations

Social work has different dimensions, among them; the generalist practice is based on the use of information of social work amalgamated with the professional values and different skills that can be adapted to work with different types of clients under different conditions and arrangements. There are ample preparations by the generalist practitioners apply critical thinking and allow flexibility of choice among the different skills required for practice. Social workers also consider the roles they have t

This work of this assignment is based on the five studies retrieved from“Annotated Bibliography of Research Evidence.” ? Draft a critical appraisal of each of the five studies ? Review and summarize each study for appropriate measures of validity, reliability, and applicability based on the type of study/evidence you have compiled.

Evidently, the researchers used a systematic review approach with meta-analysis of selected previously conducted studies. The researchers used and reviewed 18 clinical studies to obtain evidence of the effect of daily bathing with chlorhexidine gluconate in critically ill patients and the risk of developing CLABSI, MRSA and VRE. Based on the critical appraisal checklist developed by Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt (2015), the validity of the results of this study partly depends on a number of factors. First, it is evident that the researchers obtained the articles from three valid sources- PubMed, Embase and Cochrane databases. Secondly, most of the reviewed studies used the randomized controlled trials (RCTs), an important approach for carrying out clinical studies. The authors have also provided a detailed description of the search strategy used to find the relevant research articles. Specifically, they employed the Cochrane Collaboration methodology to search and evaluate all the peer reviewed research articles relevant to daily CGH bathing and the risks of acquiring VRE, CLABSI and MRSA. Noteworthy, the Cochrane Collaboration methodology is effective in systematic review of randomized trials because it consists of more than 30,000 specialists involved in systematic review of trials for treatments, prevention and rehabilitation. In this article, Kim et al (2016) have used the methodology to search and include the most relevant articles for their study, which provides evidence of a highly valid research work.

Write a report on one of the 1-hour BMJ learning modules. Topic. Pulmonary Embolism It must be 1500 words (excluding tables, appendices and references)

Pulmonary embolism, a cardiovascular disorder that is mainly characterized by shortness of breath (dyspnea) and chest heaviness, is among the leading causes for mortality, hospitalization, and morbidity [1-2]. The condition is one of the consequential diseases of venous thromboembolism – the other being deep vein thrombosis [2]. The complexities in the presentation and the presence of multiple differential diagnoses for the condition make the disease important in healthcare. Firstly, many individuals with pulmonary embolism have been reported to have presented symptoms or diagnosable clinical presentations of the disease when the condition is in its severe state [1]. In other cases, pulmonary embolism has presented in sudden death, which reduces the opportunity of timely commencement of treatment and effective management of the disease [1]

For each of the five (5) scenarios described in the Case Study, determine the most appropriate conflict handling style(s). Support your answer with appropriate documentation. For each of the five scenarios described below, determine what is the most appropriate conflict-handling style(s).

Scenario One In the case involving an internist and radiologist that escalated into conflict after changes in the diagnosis, the radiologist should use a collaborating style to handle the issue. The collaborating style of conflict resolution emphasizes the identification of the underlying issue and attempts to find a solution, because of its importance in the conflict (Rahim, 2017). In this scenario, changing the initial diagnosis can have a significant impact on clinical decisions including the types of interventions, medication, and choice of care. Therefore, the most important issue in this scenario is making an accurate diagnosis without focusing on who is wrong or right – because the diagnosis is critical to the improvement of a patient’s health outcome.

For this assignment, begin by reviewing the NASW Code of Ethics. Then, prepare a written response to the following: • After reviewing the NASW Code, think back to the social issue/problem you selected and discussed for the Week 1 assignment. Identify two specific areas from the NASW Code of Ethics that you think might become the greatest ethical challenge in addressing the issue/problem from Week 1. For example, the most recently revised Code contains information on texting clients, electronic communication, Facebook, etc., which may present ethical issues for social workers who use social media. How might your own personal ethical values compare and contrast with the NASW Code of Ethics that you are required to follow as a professional?

(WHO, n.d) .According to NASW(2019), death of a child occurs form neglect and child abuse in the US every day and in many of the concerned conditions, the horrible and horrific deaths could be well prevented by proper intervention and activities of the social workers associated with the same. The aspects of child abuse are witnessed by social workers, especially in families with challenging conditions and are then charged with investigating and then intervening drug exposures, sexual abuses and other myriads of family violence, specifically those inflicted upon the girl child.
